Description
Night Watch: Owls of the American West takes visitors on a journey into the fascinating lives of owls, from their biology and behavior to the folklore surrounding these misunderstood creatures.

Through photography, scientific text panels, and cultural artifacts, Night Watch explores the biology, behavior, and mythology of 10 species of owls found in the American West. In this exhibition, visitors will learn how owls’ silent flight, keen eyesight, and sharp talons make them master hunters, and discover the important roles they play in ecosystems. Visitors will also leave the exhibit better understanding the threats facing owls, and will inspired to help save these important creatures.
Owls featured in the exhibit can be found from Washington to California, and from Arizona to Colorado. These include beloved species like Great Horned Owls, Barn Owls, and Snowy Owls, as well as lesser-known species like Great Gray Owls, Northern Saw-whet Owls, and the California Spotted Owl.
Significantly, this exhibit will also explore depictions of owls in mythology and folklore, including mythological origins in Ancient Greece and Rome, and the varying meanings that owls hold for Indigenous peoples in the American West.
Night Watch: Owls of the American West is developed and toured by Exhibit Envoy, a 501c3 nonprofit.
