Contemporary Native and Indigenous printmakers’ diverse points of view and styles of artwork are revealed through their vibrant, recent works.

New traveling exhibition Metaphor, Myth, & Politics: Art from Native Printmakers presents captivating recent prints by Kenojuak Ashevak (Inuit), Marwin Begaye (Navajo), Nicholas Galanin (Tlingit/Aleut), Wendy Red Star (Crow), C. Maxx Stevens (Seminole/Muscogee), Melanie Yazzie (Diné [Navajo]), and 22 more Native and Indigenous printmakers from across the globe. Through their inventive and vibrant works, the artists in this exhibition reveal the diverse points of view and styles of art found in the world of contemporary Native printmaking.

Metaphor, Myth, & Politics: Art from Native Printmakers features 35 contemporary works on paper by 28 Native and Indigenous artists, all drawn from the C.N. Gorman Museum’s collection (UC Davis). This area of the collections was established early in the museum’s history and has been expanding since then through the generosity of artists, as well as collectors and museum members. The museum has also been honored to serve as a repository for several large print portfolios, organized by master printmaker and UC Boulder Professor Melanie Yazzie (Diné [Navajo]).

Metaphor, Myth, & Politics: Art from Native Printmakers is a partnership between the C.N. Gorman Museum and Exhibit Envoy.
